What does a typical Marbella driveway job involve?
There is no single Marbella driveway, but the jobs we are asked about tend to share a pattern: a gate on the plot boundary, a drive of varying length up to the house, a turning or parking area near the front door, and sometimes a garage. The paving has to read as one design from gate to door, while each part carries different loads and water.
Where the drive is the main approach to a villa, our villa and estate entrances service covers the whole route including edging and the junction with the gate. For a simpler straight drive to a house, the standard driveway block paving approach applies. If your plot happens to sit on a slope, the falls and drains guide explains why the water plan comes before the paver choice.
Which parts of Marbella do we cover?
All of the municipality. The names below are sourced sub-areas and urbanizaciones; we list them so you can check coverage, not to suggest anything about the houses or ground in each one.
- West: San Pedro de Alcántara, Guadalmina, Guadalmina Alta, Guadalmina Baja, Nueva Andalucía, Puerto Banús
- Centre and Golden Mile: Milla de Oro, Nagüeles, Sierra Blanca, Rícmar, El Rosario, Salto del Agua
- East: Río Real, Los Monteros, Bahía de Marbella, Altos Reales, Los Altos de Marbella, Marbesa
- Far east: Elviria, Las Chapas, Hacienda Las Chapas, Artola, Cabopino
Marbella belongs to the Costa del Sol Occidental comarca, summarised on the sister site's Costa del Sol Occidental hub. For neighbouring towns, see our full list of areas.
How does the work run if you are not in Spain?
It runs on clear checkpoints. You approve a written scope and a layout sketch by email, a key-holder or property manager opens the gate on agreed days, and we send photographs after excavation, after the base is compacted, after edging, and at handover. Everything is in English, and decisions you need to take are flagged in writing, not left to a phone call.
Gated urbanizaciones commonly have their own rules: registration of contractor vehicles, permitted hours, and where a skip can stand. Whether your community has such rules is something your administrator or security office will know; tell us early and we fit the plan to them.
Do the urbanización or town hall need to approve it?
Possibly both, for different reasons. If the drive is part of a community's common elements, the owners' meeting decides under the Horizontal Property Law, and your administrator confirms the majority needed. On the municipal side, the procedure for an outdoor paving job in Marbella is set by the current municipal ordinance, so it is worth asking the town hall before work is scheduled.
Any change at the public kerb, such as a lowered crossing for the gate, needs separate municipal authorisation under Marbella's own rules. The communities of owners guide sets out who decides what inside an urbanización.
What if the existing surface only looks tired?
Then replacement may be the wrong answer. Faded or stained stamped concrete can often be cleaned, crack-filled and coated through stamped concrete restoration, and a single dipped area is a repair job for lift and relay. For budgeting, the factors and per-m² ranges are explained on what moves the price. Send us a photo and the approximate m² – free, no-obligation quote.
Frequently asked questions
Can I manage a Marbella driveway project entirely from abroad?
Yes. Scope, layout and quote are agreed by email, site access is arranged through a key-holder or property manager, and you receive photos at each main stage. You only need to be reachable for the decisions we flag in writing, such as paver colour or kerb line.
Do you work inside gated urbanizaciones?
Yes, provided the community's access rules allow contractor vehicles on the days needed. We ask you or the administrator for any registration procedure, permitted hours and parking rules before scheduling, so the security office is not surprised on the first morning.
Which areas of Marbella do you cover?
The whole municipality, including San Pedro de Alcántara, Nueva Andalucía, Guadalmina, Puerto Banús, Sierra Blanca, Nagüeles, Río Real, Los Monteros, Elviria, Las Chapas, Artola and Cabopino. Neighbouring towns on the western coast are covered as well.
Can the paving continue the style of my existing terrace?
Often, yes. We can match format and tone with the paving around the house where a compatible product is available, or deliberately contrast the drive. Terraces and pool surrounds themselves are handled by our sister site for terraces and pools.
What decides the build-up under a villa drive?
Mainly what drives on it and how water leaves it. A drive used by cars only needs a different base from one where delivery or service lorries reach the house. Ground conditions found when we excavate can also change the plan, which we report with photos.
Is a permit needed to pave my driveway in Marbella?
That depends on the scope and on Marbella's current ordinance, which we cannot confirm in general. Andalusian law sends minor works without a project to a responsible declaration, but the town hall is the one to confirm the procedure for each paving job.
How do I get a quote for a long villa drive?
Send photos from the gate looking in, from the house looking out, and of any problem spots, with an approximate length and width. If you have a plot plan, attach it. We then confirm measurements on a site visit before the final quote.
Do you also lay the turning area in front of the house?
Yes. Turning circles and parking pads are part of the same job as the drive, and they take more twisting stress from tyres, so we design edging and pattern with that in mind rather than simply extending the drive layout.
Can you work around a lowered kerb at the gate?
We pave up to the property line. If the kerb at the public road needs lowering or the footway is affected, that needs separate municipal authorisation, which the owner or community requests. We can coordinate our dates once permission is in place.
What should I do if just one section has dropped?
Photograph it with something for scale and send it. A localised dip is usually a base issue at that point, repaired by lifting, correcting the base and relaying the same pavers, which is far less disruptive than repaving the drive.
