What kind of driveway work do we take on inside the city?
Inside Málaga city, driveway work usually falls into one of three groups: a private drive in front of a detached or semi-detached house, the entrance and ramp to a shared underground garage, and an outdoor parking area belonging to a community of owners. Each group has different traffic, different decision-makers and a different way of working on site, so we price and plan them separately rather than treating every square metre of paving as identical.
For a house, the usual brief is a block-paved driveway that carries a car or two every day without rutting. For a building, it is more often a garage entrance where vehicles turn tightly on the same strip of paving, or a community car park where the whole surface has to stay usable while we work on it in phases.
Which districts and barrios do we cover?
We cover all eleven municipal districts. The barrio names below come from the city's own 2025 demographic statistics and are listed only so you can find your area quickly; they say nothing about the condition of the ground or the paving there. The city forms its own comarca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, described on our sister site's Málaga-Costa del Sol block paving hub; other towns are on our areas we cover page.

What changes when the entrance crosses the public pavement?
The short answer: the private part and the public part are two different matters. Our work sits on your plot or on the community's land. If the job also involves the public footway or lowering the kerb for a vehicle crossing (vado), separate municipal authorisation is needed, and the city's ordinance sets the rules, which are worth confirming with the council for each case.
Málaga City Council's planning office reported in 2021 more than 40 types of works handled by responsible declaration and 22 exempt from both licence and declaration, published on its website under 'actos no sujetos a licencia'. Whether your particular paving job is on that list is a case-by-case question for the planning office. Our guide on vehicle crossings and permits explains which questions to ask before you book.
How do we handle a shared garage ramp in a city building?
A garage ramp in a block of flats is used by every resident, so the real constraint is access, not paving speed. We agree with the administrator which section closes when, where residents can leave their cars meanwhile, and how pedestrian access to the street door stays open. Where the ramp is steep, the build-up and edge restraint matter more than the paver colour, as covered in sloping driveways and ramps.
Under the Horizontal Property Law (Ley 49/1960), work on common elements needs a resolution of the owners' meeting under article 17; your community administrator can tell you which majority your job requires. We can supply a written description of the work for the agenda so that owners vote on something concrete.
Is it a new driveway, a repair or a refresh?
Before quoting new paving we look at whether you actually need it. If only a wheel track has dropped, a lift-and-relay repair from our sister site for sinking driveways may be enough. If the surface is sound but faded stamped concrete, a restoration through driveway restoration avoids demolition. Cost depends on area, access, base condition and edging; figures are only published on our price pages.
Send us a photo and the approximate m² – free, no-obligation quote. A picture taken from the street looking in, plus one of the worst spot, usually tells us which of the three routes makes sense.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work in every district of Málaga city?
Yes. We take driveway, garage-entrance and car-park jobs in all eleven municipal districts, from Churriana and Campanillas to the eastern barrios. The only practical limits are access for materials and whether the work affects public land, which needs separate permission.
Can you pave the entrance of an underground garage while residents keep using it?
Usually yes, by splitting the ramp or entrance into sections and closing one at a time. The phasing is agreed with the community administrator beforehand, so residents know which days they need to park elsewhere and how pedestrians reach the door.
Who applies to the town hall for a vado in Málaga?
The vehicle crossing licence is normally requested by the property owner or the community. We execute paving works; we do not draft permit applications. The procedure and any fee are set by the city's ordinance and should be checked with the council for your address.
Does a private driveway in Málaga need a licence?
It depends on the scope. Andalusian law places minor works without a project under a responsible declaration, and Málaga publishes lists of works handled that way or exempt. Whether your specific paving job is on those lists is best checked with the council before starting.
What do you need to give me a first estimate?
A few photos from different angles, the approximate square metres, and a note on what drives over it: one car, a van, delivery lorries. If there are manholes, steps or a gate in the area, include a picture of those too, because they change the edging and cutting work.
Can the community car park be done in phases?
Yes. Large community parking areas are often split so that part of the spaces remain usable throughout. The order of phases depends on where the entrance is and where materials can be stored, and we propose it in writing for the owners' meeting.
Is block paving suitable for a ramp down to a garage?
It can be, provided the base and edge restraint are designed for the slope and turning traffic. On steep ramps the pavers must be locked by solid kerbs at the bottom and sides. We assess each ramp on site before recommending paving over another finish.
What happens to the old paving and rubble?
Debris from lifting old surfaces is removed and taken to an authorised facility. Spanish rules on construction and demolition waste apply, and the treatment of rubble from minor domestic works falls under municipal responsibility, which is why disposal is listed as its own line in the quote.
My driveway has only sunk in one place. Do I need new paving?
Probably not. A single dip in a wheel track usually points to a base problem in that spot, which is a repair job: lift the pavers, correct the base, relay them. Our sister site for sunken paving covers that work specifically.
Can you send progress photos if I am not in Málaga during the work?
Yes. Many owners are abroad or at work, so we send photos at the main stages: excavation, base, edging and the finished surface. Communication can be in English throughout, and a key-holder or administrator can handle site access.
